WORKOUT WHILE YOU COOK-OUT

The holidays are always filled with food, family, friends, and fun. Buuut it’s easy to forget about fitness, and we tend to care more about indulging in delicious goodies and less about what it is doing to our waist line. So, here I have created a fun and easy workout to do as you follow my recipe for a delicious and nutritious holiday appetizer! Once you’re finished with the app, you will have completed a full body circuit, and you’ll have yummy loaded sweet potato bites to serve up to guests or personally chow down!

5-STEP WORKOUT

1. Counter Top Push Ups

A Place your hands on your kitchen counter top, palms should be hanging off to reduce stress placed on your wrists. B Stand a few feet back from the counter so your body is angled toward it. CBend your elbows and bring your chest to the surface, then back up for one push up.

Quantity: 10 pushups before Cooking Steps 1, 3, and 5 below

2. Oven Check Squats

A Stand an arms-distance from your oven with arms in front of you and feet shoulder-width apart. BSit your butt back into a squat until your legs make a 90-degree angle at your knees, and then stand back up. You can use the height of the oven handle to guide you.

Quantity: 10 squats before each time you open the oven

3. One Leg Balance

Balance on one foot with the opposite leg parallel to the ground.

Quantity: 1 minute per side while you cook the sausage

4. Blender Warrior Pose

Lift your foot toward your butt, and hold it with your hand on the corresponding side. Gently kick your knee back and open your body and far as you can.

Quantity: 30 seconds on each side as you blend the salsa

5. Cool Down Step Ups

A Find a stool or something you can step up onto. B Place one foot up on the step. C Bring the opposite foot up, the other back down. D Repeat using the opposite foot to start.

Quantity: 2 minutes while the sweet potatoes cool down

Alright, now you have the moves. Let’s cook!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Large sweet potato
  • 1 6oz Container of plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 Package of Chorizo sausage (*scallions make a great vegetarian alternative, slice the light green part and leave raw)
  • Salsa:
    • 1 Fresh jalapeno pepper
      • Remove all seeds for a mild salsa. The more that you keep, the hotter it will be
    • 1 Anaheim pepper, whole
    • 6-8 Fresh Tomatillos, peeled and washed
    • ½ Small white onion
    • ½ Head of garlic
    • Juice from 1 lime
    • Salt to taste

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Slice your sweet potato into 1/8’ rounds.

Step 2

Place the round potatoes, single layer, on a baking sheet and place in the oven. Bake for 25 minute or until golden brown, flipping halfway through.

Step 3

Begin cooking your Chorizo on medium heat.

While that cooks, Place all salsa ingredients into a blender or food processor.

Blend until ingredients are at desired salsa consistency.

STEP 6

Take sweet potatoes out to cool.

STEP 7

Top With Yogurt

Top the sweet potatoes with Greek yogurt.

Next is sausage to place on top!

Finish with salsa, and then devour!
